My tutoring job has turned out to be quite an adventure. My students (including Emma) certainly keep me on my toes. Here are some things I have learned from them this week:
A group of hippos is called a "bloat of hippos."
Assess is NOT spelled asses.
The reason no one ever shuts doors in the movies is because they don't put hinges on the doors of some movies sets to save money. The doors literally cannot close.
Basic geometry. Remember the Pythagorean Theorem?
There are now miniature skateboards that you can drive with your hands called, "finger skateboards." They are all the rage with elementary school boys.
Don't eat Philippino food unless you know exactly what is in it, or you may regret it later. We're talking "Fear Factor moment," here.
You can figure out if a number is divisible by 9 if the sum of its digits adds up to 9. Who knew?
Finally, (my favorite) according to Bianca (a 10-year-old student with cerebral palsy) I look like Tyra Bank's twin sister. Her indignant little sister thought I looked much more like J-Lo. Hmmm...Maybe they need glasses, not tutoring.
I guess every job has its own kins of idiosyncrasies. It's all in a day's work!
