Deadly Grannies

Since you have to sell one of your kidneys or take out a loan to go grocery shopping around here, I am learning to shop strategically. When I saw that there was mega eight-hour sale at Albertson's on Thursday, I decided to stock up. (Hey, you can always use toilet paper and chocolate chip cookies) I didn't know that it would be like attending a geriatric rock concert.

Mobs of senior citizens (who must have been hyped-up on extra meds) moshed through the aisles jockeying for the best discounts. There were sweet old ladies ramming each other with shopping carts to get the last case of Sierra Mist. Dentures and canes were flying. I practically had to body surf through the crowd to get cheese at the deli, and at one point I had to hide behind a produce display to get away from someone named Mildred who was enraged that I got the last bag of lettuce for 68 cents. Forget the Running of the Bulls. Lean ground beef for $1.23 a pound is far more deadly. Next time I am leaving my kids at home. I don't want them to have a Pavlovian response of horror to anyone over the age of 60.
p.s. I hope my own sweet, but tech-savvy grandma doesn't blog.

Sounds like the day after Thanksgiving Early Bird specials. Nice normal people turn into hardened prison inmates to get the toy they want for their kid. I am too looking forward to seeing you guys in Vegas!

Sounds like a shopping adventure!! I'd have to say, I'm becoming quite "hardened" when it comes to shopping these days. You've got to do what you've got to do! I've been amazed at the price increase from even NorCal to SoCal.

Anyway, we'd love to get together with you guys sometime. If you're ever headed this way, we'd be happy to let the kids play while you and Rance go out. Or, just a place to crash for a break. We just got passes to the Wild Animal Park and the Zoo and are planning on going once a month or so. We haven't had a chance to make it out as much as we'd like, but it is so nice to be in an area with lots to do.

This is Mildred. I'm coming to get you, and you better not have eaten my lettuce!
