I am fortunate in that my commute doesn't involve the worst freeways in LA, they do however afford plenty of excitement in my life. Whether it is the car in front slamming on it's brake for no reason, or the semi-truck 3 feet off my bumper. This week has been especially exciting. On Monday a Bronco in front of me had a bad flat on the back passenger side. The dude was oblivious, which is amazing because it was jacked up and he was facing the sky not the road because of the flat. I honked and flashed my lights but he didn't notice, so I backed way off of him. Just in time too because his tire disintegrated and he sent rubber flying everywhere. Then he veered off the road but got it stopped without hitting anyone or anything.
Yesterday it was my turn to hit the shoulder of the freeway. I was cruising along in the morning when suddenly my thermostat pegged hot and my car started yelling at me. I pulled off and spent the rest of the morning getting to a mechanic in 200 ft spurts. Long story short I lost a pump and am now out $900. Great way to start the day.

Glad to hear you missed the tread flying off! But no fun replacing a water pump... Hope it wasn't your Jetta!
